The Gangkyi Day School was started in 1975 and managed by
the Tibetan Children's Village. In 1978 the management was
transfered to Council for Tibetan Education.
Since its inception, the school has received generous support
from the relief organisation IM of Sweden, which gives a regular
grant for the running expenses. The 105 pupils are mostly
the children of Central Tibetan Administration staff members
and local Tibetans along with some Indian children and children
of foreign students studying at the Library of Tibetan Works
and Archives.
