THE DARJEELING SCHOOL
The school in Darjeeling was set up one year after the Mussoorie school opened. Initially the school was housed in the N.B.M.R. building which had been purchased by the school and three other rented buildings. By 1966 N.B.M.R. building had been demolished and the new block with ten classrooms and multi-purpose hall constructed.
Later the central Public Works Department constructed a three-storied building which now houses the offices, staff-room, science laboratory and dispensary on the ground floor, six classrooms on the second floor and a girls dormitory on the third floor. The entire complex commands a breathtaking view of the Kanchenjunga. The first principal of this school, Mr.T.Lhawang, started the school with 70 students and 12 teachers in 1961. Over the years the school continued to grow and today it has 848 students with 33 teachers.
The school has consistently maintained a high academic standard and the students have done well both in the secondary and Sr. secondary board examinations, averaging an 80% pass.
