SOME OF OUR FORMER STUDENTS NOW HOLDING RESPONSIBLE POSTS IN THE TIBETAN GOVT-IN-EXILE

Mr. Tashi Wangdu was a former student of the CST, Mussoorie. He later entered the Wynberg Allen School at Mussoorie and completed his Indian School Certificate Examinations there in 1966. He then worked as an interpreter in the Home Affairs and the Council for Tibetan Education Offices in Dharamsala.

In 1968, along with two other Tibetan students, he went to England to study at Durham University, and completed his B.A(Hons) degree there in 1973. Returning to Dharamsala in 1974, he worked at Home Affairs. In that year he was elected a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Tibetan Youth Congress. Subsequently he was elected as its General Secretary.

In 1976 Mr. Tashi Wangdu was promoted to Deputy Secretary of Home Affairs. Shortly after this he became the Acting Secretary and then the Secretary at the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New Delhi. In 1980 he was appointed Acting Representative and in 1981 as Representative at the Bureau of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Mr. Tashi Wangdu was sworn in as Kalon (a Minister in the Tibetan Government in Exile) on the 17th of March 1983. He is at present in charge of both the Information and Security Offices. He is also the Representative of His Holiness at the Tibetan Bureau in New Delhi.

Mr. D. Tenzin left Lhasa on 18th March, 1959 to accompany His Holiness the Dalai Lama's entourage as a member of the security force. When he reached India he was already a young man of 21 years but despite this, he had the determination to begin his formal education and entered the Tibetan School in Mussoorie in March 1960 as one of the first group of fifty students in the school. He was then nominated by the Tibetan Government in Exile to undergo a special Training in Public Administration. In 1962 he was assigned to assist the Tibetan Settlement Officer in Tezu, Arunachal Pradesh, and was later promoted to the post of Settlement Officer. In 1967 he was transferred to the Tibetan Refugee Rehabilitation Settlement in Chandragiri, Orissa, where he served both as a settlement Officer and also as the Secretary of the Tibetan Co-operative Society. From May 1974 to July 1975, Mr.Tenzin Tariat of His Holiness the Dalai lama. He was also assigned to serve in the nangchen Division of Tibetan Refugee Society in Bir, H,P. as the settlement Officer there.

In January 1983, he was transferred and appointed as the Acting Secretary of the Council for Home Affairs and is currently its Secretary.

Mr. Dawa Tsering was a student of the Central School for Tibetans in Mussoorie and completed his All India Higher Secondary Studies at the same school in 1969. From July 1969 to July 1972, he was a student of the Hindu College under Delhi University and completed his B.A. studies there in 1972, he was a student of the Hindu College under Delhi University and completed his B.A. studies there in 1972.

Mr. Dawa Tsering served as the Office Secretary in the Ligsung Samdubling Tibetan Settlement in Bylakuppe from 1972-76 and as Secretary of Tibetan Co-operative Society in Phuntsokling Tibetan Settlement in Chandragiri, Orissa.

In 1981, Dawa Tsering was transferred to the Economic Affairs of His Holiness the Dalai lama as its Deputy Secretary and served there in the same capacity until 1983. he is the incumbent Secretary of the Economics Affairs Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Mr. Tsering Dorjee was born at Sangling, Tibet in 1950 and escaped to India together with his parents in 1959. In 1960, he joined the Central School for Tibetans in Mussoorie, U.P. After completing his All India Higher Secondary School Examinations in 1969, he joined the University of Delhi on a Government of India scholarship. In 1972 the Tibetan Government in Exile summoned him to work and was first assigned to the Office of Tibet, Nepal. Mr. Dorjee also worked for some time in the Council for Home Affairs of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Dharamsala.

Since September 1974, Mr Dorjee has been working in the Office of Tibet, Switzerland, which was also responsible for Europe, until the Office of Tibet in London was established in 1982. Mr. Pema Gyalpo Gyari was a former student of the Central Tibetan School in Darjeeling. He was then chosen to go to Japan to continue his school education and later joined the Asia University in Tokyo. Mr. Pema Gyalpo holds a BA and a law degree and is now the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for South-east Asia Pacific Region based at Tokyo in Japan.

Mr. Rinchen Dralo was born in Tibet in 1948. he received formal education at the CST, Shimla and later at the Central School for Tibetans in Pachmari. While in School , Mr Dharlo was a class monitor and a prefect of the school. For some time , he worked in the Tibetan paper mill in Bhopal before he was deputed to work in Nepal. Mr Rinchen Dharlo has been serving in the Office of Tibet in Kathmandu in various capacities. He has also shown much interest in the various educational projects in Nepal and worked in coordination with the Council for Tibetan Education.

Mr. Rinchen Dharlo has translated into Tibetan a booklet on the "Monarchy in Nepal" and a brief biography of His Majesty the King Birendra Bir Bikhram Shah Dev of Nepal which were published by the Department of Information, Ministry of Education, Royal Government of Nepal. He has also written a guidebook on the Buddhist Holy places in Nepal. Mr. Rinchen Darlo is now working as the Representative of His Holiness the Dalai lama at the Office of Tibet in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Mr.Tenpa samkhar was a student of CST, Mussoorie before entering St.George 's College, Mussoorie, where he completed his Indian School Certificate Examinations in 1971. While at school, he was editor of the school monthly called ' Voice of Manor House' for three years and also distinguished himself in English debate. In 1972 he served in the Private Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for some time before entering St. Joseph's College, Darjeeling, from where he graduated in 1975. While in College, he actively participated in the Extra -cirricular activities and was also the chief editor of the Tibetan and English journals of the College. He was Vice President of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of Darjeeling for two years and was also a member of the T.Y.C. Central Executive Committee from 1976-77.

From December 1975 until June 1980, Mr. Samkhar served in the Office of the Kashag Secretaries holding various responsibilities ranging from Senior Clerk to Acting Assistant Secretary until he was transferred to head lugsung Samdubling in Bylakuppe, which is one of the largest Tibetan Settlements in India.

Mr.Tempa Tsering arrived in India in October 1959 and joined the Tibetan School Mussoorie in 1960. After three years of study in Mussoorie he was awarded a scholarship to continue his studies in St. Gabriats Academy in Roorkie, U.P and later at Graham's Homes, Kalimpong, he was awarded the "Pemberton Prize" as the Best All round Boy and also served as the Senior Prefect and school captain. After finishing his Indian School Certificate Examination at Dr. Graham's Homes in 1969 with a first division, he joined the Christian College in Madras University and completed his B.Sc in 1973.

Since then Mr. Tenpa Tsering has been serving our community in various capacities. he worked in the office of Lugsung Samdubling Tibetan Settlement in Bylakuppe between April, 1973 and June, 1974. He was then transferred to the Central Tibetan Secretariat in Dharamsala, where he worked in the Information Office of His Holiness in the capacity of Senior Clerk and was later promoted to the post of Deputy Secretary in the same Office. He was also a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Tibetan Youth Congress from October, 1974 to October, 1983.Mr. Tenpa Tsering is at the moment serving in the Private Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala as an Assistant Secretary.

Mr. Lobsang Jinpa completed his All India Higher Secondary Examinations at the CST Mussoorie in 1972 and thereafter served in the Council for Tibetan Education for some time. In 1976 he graduated from the Panjab University in Chandigarh. He then served at the Library of Tibetan Works & Archives till he was transferred to serve in the Private Office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

In 1977 he was elected as the president of the Tibetan Youth Congress and held the post for two consecutive terms until 1983.

In 1980, when he was the president of the TYC, he toured Tibet as a member of the second fact finding delegation. Lobsang Jinpa is now a Deputy Secretary in the Security Affairs Office of the Central Tibetan Secretariat of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala.
